Vernon Landry
Vernon “Reggie” Landry was the father of Sean Landry and Elliot Landry. Sean was his son from an earlier relationship; Elliot was his son with Jazmine Landry. Vernon remained largely absent from Elliot’s daily upbringing and failed to protect him during the sporadic weekends and visits Elliot spent with Vernon and Sean in Montgomery.
Family Life
Vernon and Jazmine’s relationship ended while Elliot was young. Jazmine raised Elliot in Pine Hollow, while Elliot continued visiting Vernon in Montgomery on some weekends. Vernon treated the visits as an obligation, made little effort to connect with Elliot, and favored Sean. He dismissed Sean’s bullying and violence as ordinary conflict between brothers and sometimes left Elliot alone with him.
Vernon also criticized Elliot’s body, appetite, and manner, reinforcing the shame Sean used against him. When Jazmine tried to stop the visits and seek help, Vernon insisted that Elliot needed to endure them rather than confronting Sean’s abuse.
Melinda Fields
Vernon later dated Melinda Fields. Melinda met Elliot through that relationship and objected to Vernon’s neglect, favoritism, and encouragement of Sean’s behavior. She ended the relationship after Vernon threatened her, but remained close to Jazmine and Elliot.
