Ellie Liu
Eloise “Ellie” Ji Liu was the daughter of Korean American sound artist Sophie Liu and Chinese American bassist Peter Liu. Born around 2035, she lived with her parents in Ann Arbor and grew up within the extended family surrounding CRATB. Ellie developed an interest in ambient sound and belonged to the older cohort of The Band Kids. She was also called Lo, Lo-Lo, baby bassline, and, by Charlie, baby Rivera-Liu.
Early Life and Music
Ellie was born in mid-2035. In June 2036, Peter held her during the band family’s dinner for Ezra’s thirtieth-birthday planning.
Peter introduced Ellie to rhythm and bass during early childhood and built her a child-sized bass decorated with stickers. She later gravitated toward Sophie’s ambient sound work. By approximately age twelve, Ellie was creating soundscapes of her own.

Ellie and Raffie Cruz were close friends from early childhood and belonged to the Band Kids’ older cohort. She also became a close confidante of Lia Cruz despite their age difference. Ellie and Lia created soundscapes together, experimented with music, and spent time together at rehearsals and concerts.
During the Bay Lights outing in December 2045, Ellie gathered the photographs and videos that Clara Keller and Emily Harlow-Keller had taken after Charlie fell asleep. She sent the collection to Logan with a short message assuring him that the children were looking after Charlie.

Ellie’s parents worked in complementary areas of music production and performance. Sophie was an ambient musician, sound designer, and audio engineer; Peter played upright and electric bass. Their household exposed Ellie to both sound design and instrumental performance.
