Leah Miller

Leah Miller was the only daughter and middle child of civil rights attorney Darius “DJ” Miller and public-relations professional Cassidy Miller. Born around 2009, she grew up in North Carolina between her older brother, Jordan, and younger brother, Micah. At sixteen in 2025, she was a high-school junior known in her family for her intelligence and outspokenness.

Early Life and Background

Leah grew up in North Carolina with DJ, Cassidy, Jordan, and Micah. She watched DJ pursue civil-rights cases and Cassidy make decisions about how public stories were told. Their work shaped Leah’s attention to injustice and her willingness to speak up about it, including when she disagreed with someone at home or school. Her extended family included her aunt Julia Weston, uncle Nathan Weston, and cousin Logan Weston.

As the middle child, Leah wanted her own views heard alongside Jordan’s older-sibling responsibilities and the latitude Micah received as the youngest. She learned to read when to press a point and when to step back, but did not keep quiet merely to preserve an easy peace. She was direct without treating her parents’ commitment to justice as exempt from her questions. Leah also recognized the unequal reception a Black girl’s directness could receive, including tone policing and the “angry Black girl” stereotype.

June 2025 Graduation Visit

At sixteen, Leah attended Jacob and Logan’s June 2025 graduation with her family. During breakfast before the ceremony, she and Micah were supposed to set the table but instead stole bacon. Leah rolled her eyes when DJ called them delinquents and later answered him without looking up from her phone. During the ceremony, she looked up to watch Jacob receive his diploma.

December 2025 Family Crisis

After Logan’s accident, Leah was tagged in circulating photographs of his wrecked car and saw them before her parents could intervene. She began sobbing; Cassidy stayed with her while DJ called Julia. Julia asked DJ to tell Leah that Logan was alive and that she had done nothing wrong by seeing the images. Leah saw Cassidy use her communications work to organize the public response to Logan’s injuries as the #LightForLogan campaign. She later came to Baltimore with her family and returned to North Carolina with Cassidy and her brothers for school.
