Alexandra Whitcomb

Alexandra Whitcomb, known as Alex, was a physician and orthopedic specialist. Born circa 2007, she was the elder daughter of Aaron Whitcomb and Rebecca Whitcomb and the older sister of Allison Whitcomb. She trained in the same Hopkins cohort as Logan Weston. Her friendship with Logan brought him and Charlie Rivera to the Whitcomb family’s Thanksgiving gathering in 2033, where Charlie and Allie first met.

Family and Background

Alex grew up in a household shaped by her father’s career in academic orthopedic surgery. Her decision to enter medicine followed a path the family already understood as serious professional work. Allie’s fashion sketches mattered to Alex from early on, but Allie felt the contrast between her own less readily recognized ambitions and her older sister’s medical path. Alex remained one of Allie’s early supporters.

The Whitcomb household’s mainline Protestant social world placed value on education, restraint, service, and professional discipline. Alex’s training gave her a direct place within that world. She inherited her mother Rebecca’s thick, straight hair.

Education and Medical Training

Alex attended the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine alongside Logan Weston. By Thanksgiving 2033, they were nearing residency. She knew his medical ability, kindness, humility, and the pain he carried through training, rather than only the public arguments about his disability and accommodations. Alex pursued orthopedics, following her father’s broad professional path without replicating his career. In her later practice, she frequently referred patients to Dr. Weston, trusting his clinical judgment and patient-centered care.

Personality and Relationships

Alex was warm, sharp, protective, and polished, with a high achiever’s anxiety and a dry, practical manner. She read a room quickly and could move through an awkward encounter rather than ignore it. When people reduced someone she cared about to an assumption, she was capable of challenging them directly. Her belief in Allie’s design work and her defense of Logan’s medical competence both reflected that protectiveness.

Before Aaron met Logan, he had publicly questioned whether Logan’s disabilities and accommodations were compatible with medical training. Alex, who knew Logan as a classmate and friend, challenged her father’s judgment. She invited Logan to the family’s Thanksgiving gathering in 2033 and made clear that Charlie could come with him.

During the visit, Allie showed Logan and Charlie her fashion sketches. Aaron began to reconsider his assumptions about Logan, and later helped when a severe pain flare made Logan’s transfer unsafe. Alex witnessed her friend in acute pain in her family’s home; the evening brought her medical understanding and her concern for him together. Logan and Charlie stayed overnight while they recovered.
