James Pennington
James Michael Pennington was a White British theater student born in England on December 4, 2007. He moved to Baltimore with his parents, Edward and Eleanor Pennington, at age seven and became a member of the Ride-or-Dies. James attended Baltimore School for the Arts and began undergraduate drama training at NYU Tisch School of the Arts in fall 2025.
Early Life and Background
James was the only child of theoretical physicist Edward Pennington and psychologist Eleanor Pennington. He spent his early childhood in England before the family moved to Baltimore. James retained his British accent after the move and was mocked for it by some classmates.
James became friends with Logan Weston, Malik Carter, Mason Brooks, and Jordan Wells in third grade. The group remained close through their school years and became known as the Ride-or-Dies.
Education and Theater
James attended Baltimore School for the Arts with a theater focus. He trained in acting and directing and used performance as his primary artistic discipline.
In fall 2025, James began undergraduate drama training at NYU Tisch. Charlotte Hargreaves, his romantic partner and fellow actor, entered Tisch during the same term.
Personality
James was expressive, theatrical, humorous, and emotionally direct. Within the Ride-or-Dies, he often turned ordinary incidents into physical comedy or exaggerated retellings. He could also become serious when friends were being dismissed or treated unfairly.
James respected boundaries around other people’s vulnerabilities. After hearing Jacob Keller play Chopin at a recreation center, he honored Jacob’s request not to publicize the performance.
Cultural Identity and Heritage
James was White, British, and English. Because he moved to Baltimore at seven, his childhood and adolescence included both English family culture and American schooling. He retained his British accent rather than fully adopting local speech.
Speech and Communication Patterns
James spoke with a retained British accent that became more pronounced under stress. His everyday communication was animated and expressive, particularly when telling stories or joking with friends. In serious conversations, he used direct language and was willing to identify unequal treatment within the group.
Physical Characteristics
James had silver-blond hair. Further physical details were not established.
Family and Core Relationships
Edward Pennington
James understood Edward’s autistic routines, communication differences, and medical needs from growing up in the same household. He recognized similarities between Edward’s communication and Jacob Keller’s, which helped him respond to Jacob without treating quiet or directness as rejection.
Eleanor Pennington
Eleanor was James’s mother and the family’s practical organizer. She worked as a psychologist while coordinating the household and Edward’s medical care.

Friendships and Social Connections

James joined Logan, Malik, Mason, and Jordan’s childhood friend group after moving to Baltimore. His theater background and physical comedy made him one of the group’s most expressive members. He was especially close to Logan, who had accepted his accent and differences when other children mocked them. James joined the full group on Logan’s February 2024 Caribbean birthday cruise.
