Martha Weston
Martha Jackson Weston was a retired Black American hairstylist and salon owner, the widow of Matthew Weston, and the mother of Yvette, Steven, and Nathan Weston. Born in Baltimore in 1941, she owned a West Baltimore salon for approximately three decades. She moved to Florida in 2018 and returned to Baltimore in 2025 for her grandson Logan’s high-school graduation.
Early Life and Family
Martha was born in Baltimore in 1941. Her maiden name was Jackson. She married Matthew Weston in 1967; the nearly forty-year age difference made her considerably younger than her husband and his children from an earlier marriage.
Martha and Matthew had three children together: Yvette, Steven, and Nathan. Matthew died in 1973, and Martha was widowed at thirty-two. Surviving members of Matthew’s extended family helped her raise the children.
Career
Martha worked as a hairstylist and owned a salon in West Baltimore for approximately three decades. A service photograph of Matthew’s brother Lawrence “Larry” Weston, who was killed in Italy in 1944, hung in the salon for years.
Personality and Communication
Martha was warm, loud, opinionated, and physically affectionate. Her private speech included African American English, and she offered direct commentary on family matters. During the 2025 graduation gathering, Jacob Keller told her when he needed more physical space.
Family and Core Relationships
Matthew Weston
Martha married Matthew in 1967 and was widowed in 1973. Matthew had older children from an earlier marriage, while his children with Martha were Yvette, Steven, and Nathan.
Yvette and Steven Weston
Yvette and Steven were Martha’s two older children with Matthew. Yvette lived in Atlanta, and in 2025 Martha referred critically to Yvette’s “foolishness in Atlanta.”
Nathan Weston
Nathan was Martha’s youngest child. He and his wife, Julia, raised Grace and Logan in Baltimore. Julia’s youngest sister, Vanessa Miller-Johnson, was Nathan’s sister-in-law and Logan’s maternal aunt.
Grace Weston and Logan Weston
Grace and Logan were Martha’s known grandchildren through Nathan and Julia. Grace was stillborn in 2006. Martha remained an affectionate presence in Logan’s life and traveled from Florida for his 2025 graduation.
Relocation to Florida
Martha moved from Baltimore to Florida in early 2018. The move followed years of extended visits, and she had been reluctant to leave Baltimore because she did not want to miss Logan growing up. Nathan encouraged her to make the move when he saw that she was happier in Florida. She was still living there in June 2025, when she drove a rental car to Baltimore for Logan and Jacob’s graduation.
2025 Graduation

Martha joined the family for breakfast at the Weston home before the ceremony. She organized food, photographs, and departure logistics and asked Nathan to say grace. At the school, she attended the ceremony and joined the family photographs afterward.
Martha was shorter and rounder than the other older women at breakfast, with Logan’s eyes and Nathan’s smile. She wore expensive perfume and hairspray.
