Logan Weston and Sofia Medina

Logan Weston and Sofia Medina formed a chosen-family relationship through Charlie Rivera and the Medina family’s place in the wider Band House circle. Sofia, a Puerto Rican woman with Down syndrome who stood roughly four feet six to four feet eight, called the much taller neurologist ‘’guapo’’ with cheerful persistence. His ears and face turned red despite the composure he had maintained through spinal-cord rehabilitation, courtroom testimony, Charlie’s medical crises, and clinical work. Their recurring joke gave Sofia pleasure and let Logan be less guarded with her.

Origins

Logan first knew Sofia as Cisco’s younger sister and as someone Charlie called “my girl Sofi.” Sofia had claimed Charlie with “Mine!” and their chosen-family bond was already established. Visits to the Medina Carriage House and shared spaces around the Band House gave Sofia and Logan time to develop a relationship of their own.

Sofia approached Logan directly: she touched his arm, showed him things on her tablet, called him handsome, and watched for the blush. She treated him both as an attractive man and as her Carlitos’s partner, gradually claiming him as part of her wider circle. Logan answered her naturally and gave her tablet selections, signs, gestures, and spoken words the same attention he gave any other communication. Her direct affection did not fit neatly into his usual clinical observation or dry wit, and he learned to receive it without analyzing away the exchange.

The Blushing Joke

Sofia flirted with Logan because she found him handsome and because his response was reliably entertaining. When she called him ‘’guapo’‘, his ears reddened first, followed by his face and neck; he sometimes did not know what to do with his hands. Dry deflection and clinical composure rarely stopped the color, and Sofia repeated the compliment to see the genuine reaction again. Her pleasure in it was affectionate, rather than cruel, and repetition did not lessen it.

Ezra played theatrically into Sofia’s flirting, and Charlie matched her delight. Logan’s reaction was quieter and less controlled, which made him her preferred target when she wanted to produce a visible response. He understood that her compliments were sincere even when she enjoyed what they did to him; he could not dismiss her simple statement that he was handsome.

The joke did not define the whole relationship. Between compliments, Sofia leaned beside him, brought him tablet material, reached for his hand or arm, and included him in the household’s ordinary rhythm. Logan learned her familiar word shapes and physical shorthand over repeated visits.

Sofia’s Support for Logan and Charlie

Sofia strongly approved of Logan and Charlie’s relationship. She smiled, clapped, signed, or settled contentedly when they were affectionate. If they sat too far apart, she could place a hand on Logan’s arm and attempt to guide him closer to Charlie.

Her approval focused on two people she loved being together. She did not treat either man as a public figure or their relationship as a public story. At the Band House, they were her Logan and her Carlitos, and their closeness made the room feel properly arranged.

Logan appreciated the directness. Sofia did not ask him to explain or defend the relationship; she communicated that it made her happy and encouraged more proximity. He had spent years navigating public curiosity and projection about his life with Charlie, while Sofia’s approval focused on their happiness together. Charlie found her campaign hilarious and rarely helped Logan resist it.

Communication

Logan spoke to Sofia in ordinary language, adjusted his pace when she needed more processing time, and waited for her answer across speech, gesture, sign, expression, or AAC. He answered her questions seriously, without equating limited spoken output with limited understanding or simplifying every sentence in advance. Sofia recognized the warmth beneath his reserved manner.

Sofia used direct physical cues with him. A tap requested attention, a tug asked him to follow, and a tablet held within his view invited him to look. Compliments were often short and emphatic. Logan listened across the channels she used without requiring a longer verbal explanation.

Their tablet exchanges became an easy shared activity during quieter visits. Sofia selected photographs, music, or videos; Logan looked closely and reacted. His sustained attention mattered more than verbal enthusiasm.

Disability and Medical Boundaries

Logan understood Sofia’s epilepsy, sleep apnea, fatigue, communication access, and monitoring equipment through his neurological training and his work on Project Haven. He recommended the two-unit Haven installation used in Sofia’s home and the carriage-house guest room.

Within the relationship, he did not turn Sofia into a patient. He offered Cisco a quiet observation about seizure-threshold management and a suggestion concerning CPAP settings, while Claudia and Sofia’s clinicians continued managing her treatment. Logan did not alter the settings or substitute an informal opinion for her care team. His knowledge also appeared through general safety awareness, respect for established routines, and the design of technology that let Sofia and her support circle receive useful information.

Logan’s spinal cord injury, chronic pain, wheelchair use, and visible disability gave him practical familiarity with equipment, access, fatigue, and the difference between helping someone and taking control away. Like Sofia, he lived in a body strangers felt free to assess, though their conditions and support needs differed. He applied his experience without assuming that her body worked like his own.

Cultural Context

Logan came from a Black Baltimore family shaped by medicine, achievement, and expectations of composure. Sofia’s Puerto Rican family expressed affection more physically and openly. Logan had become familiar with Charlie’s warmth and the wider CRATB community, but Sofia’s unreserved compliments still unsettled his practiced composure. The blush marked his response to affection he could neither explain away nor fully control.

Later Relationship

Sofia remained part of Logan and Charlie’s chosen-family life through later adulthood. She continued flirting with Logan, celebrating his relationship with Charlie, and sharing tablet material during visits. She cared little about Logan’s degrees or reputation compared with his kindness to Carlitos and the pink ears her compliments could produce. She counted him as one of her people, just as she counted Carlitos, and the blush was a familiar sign of their particular bond. Logan, in turn, valued affection that reached him beyond competence and composure. He did not need to repay it as a service. The relationship ended with Logan’s death in 2081.
