WNPC Orlando Primary Care Wing

The Primary Care Wing at Doc Weston's PH branches off the north side of the Main Street corridor, providing walk-in family practice open to all Pine Hills residents. The wing follows the Baltimore model with adaptations for Pine Hills' specific health burden and Florida's climate.

The primary care population in Pine Hills carries high rates of diabetes, hypertension, and obesity -- the chronic conditions that poverty, food insecurity, and limited healthcare access produce over decades. The primary care wing treats these conditions alongside the WNPC specialty referral function, managing the upstream health issues that, left untreated, compound the neurological and pain conditions that the specialty wings address.

Florida's heat adds a primary care dimension that no other WNPC site handles as a baseline: heat-related illness screening and treatment. Pine Hills residents who work outdoors, who lack reliable AC at home, who walk or wait for buses in temperatures that exceed safe heat exposure for healthy adults -- these patients present with heat exhaustion, dehydration, and the cumulative effects of chronic heat stress on bodies that are already managing chronic conditions. The primary care wing stocks hydration supplies, treats heat-related illness as routine primary care, and screens for the cardiovascular and neurological effects of long-term heat exposure.

The wing's relationship with local churches extends primary care beyond the clinic walls -- Sunday health screenings at partner churches bring blood pressure cuffs, diabetes testing, and health education to the congregations that anchor Pine Hills' community life, reaching residents who might not walk into a medical facility but will let their church nurse check their blood pressure between services.
