Samir Panda (Career and Legacy)

Samir Panda was an Odia Indian biomedical engineer who conceived and led Project Haven and later became chief executive officer and co-founder of Haven Health, Inc.

Career Overview

Samir’s career combined biomedical engineering, home-monitoring technology, and business leadership. He led Project Haven’s engineering work and later directed the company built from the project.

Education and Early Career

Samir moved from Gopalpur-on-Sea, Odisha, to the United States at eighteen in 2019. He studied engineering at Harvard University from approximately 2019 to 2023 and completed a biomedical-engineering doctorate at Johns Hopkins University around 2028.

During Samir’s doctoral work, his father experienced a heart attack followed by a stroke. Suchitra Panda coordinated their father’s care in Odisha while Samir remained in Baltimore. The family’s remote-caregiving experience influenced Samir’s interest in integrated home-monitoring technology.

Founding and Business Development

Project Haven later became the foundation for Haven Health, Inc. Samir served as the company’s chief executive officer and co-founder.

Professional Identity and Approach

Samir led the engineering work while Logan Weston contributed clinical knowledge and disability-informed design priorities. Samir was autistic and had ADHD and migraines; his neurodivergence affected executive function, time management, sensory access, and periods of intense work.

Products, Projects, and Innovation

Samir conceived Project Haven as an integrated contactless home-monitoring system for medically complex people. His collaboration with Logan shaped the system’s contactless design and caregiver-centered alerts.

Industry Relationships and Partnerships

Priya Sharma mentored Samir at Harvard and encouraged his work at the intersection of engineering and public health. Samir later invited Logan to contribute clinical and lived-experience expertise to Project Haven, and the two became professional collaborators and friends.
