Marcus Washington III (Career and Legacy)

Marcus Levi Washington III was a professional basketball shooting guard who attended the University of Maryland, College Park on an athletic scholarship and began his professional career with the Washington Wizards.

Marcus played shooting guard at West Baltimore High School, attended Maryland on a full athletic scholarship, and completed a B.S. in Kinesiology in 2019. The Washington Wizards selected him in the 2019 NBA Draft.

Marcus learned basketball from his mother, Diana Rochelle Washington, who taught him to watch the entire court rather than focus only on the player he was guarding. He wore number twenty-three in her honor during high school.

High School Career

Marcus played varsity shooting guard at West Baltimore High School. During a December 2014 game, a University of Maryland assistant coach evaluated him and invited him for a campus visit.

Recruitment and Scholarship

Marcus visited College Park in January 2015 and continued through the program’s evaluation process. University of Maryland coaches offered him a full athletic scholarship during a March 2015 visit to the Washington family home, and he enrolled that fall.

College Career

Marcus attended the University of Maryland and completed a B.S. in Kinesiology in 2019.

The Washington Wizards selected Marcus in the 2019 NBA Draft.

Professional Career

Marcus began his rookie season with the Wizards in fall 2019. When the NBA suspended play in March 2020, he returned home during Keisha Washington’s pregnancy and was present for Rochelle Washington’s birth.
