Ezra Cruz and Nina Sufuentes Engagement (2039–2040)

Ezra Cruz and Nina Sufuentes became engaged at midnight between December 31, 2039, and January 1, 2040. Ezra proposed on the private balcony of a rooftop restaurant at one of Manhattan’s older hotels while fireworks marked the new year.

Background

Ezra and Nina first met in 2028. Their first relationship ended after Nina was critically injured in the March 2029 Velvet Frame Lounge shooting. They remained apart for approximately nine years before reuniting in 2038.

Their second relationship developed more slowly. Nina remained with Ezra through his winter-2038 double-pneumonia crisis and the recovery that followed. By the end of 2039, they had spent more than a year rebuilding their partnership.

Proposal

Ezra arranged dinner at a private rooftop restaurant and reserved its balcony for the proposal. Nina wore a deep-green gown. Shortly before midnight, Ezra led her outside, gave her his jacket against the winter cold, and knelt as the restaurant’s countdown began.

He told her:

“Nina Rose Sufuentes, I don’t want another year without you as my wife. I fought to stay alive for a lot of reasons. But you—you’re the reason I wanted to live.”

The ring held a deep-green emerald surrounded by small diamonds, matching Nina’s dress. Ezra asked, “Will you marry me, mi vida?”

Nina accepted as the countdown reached midnight and fireworks began over the city. Ezra placed the ring on her hand, and they kissed on the balcony.

Afterward

A photograph of the proposal circulated widely within hours. Later in January, Nina accompanied Ezra to the ‘’Aliento’’ release party in Miami as his fiancée.

Ezra and Nina married in 2042. Their daughter, Lia Vida Cruz, was born on July 6, 2043.
