Julian Reyes and Simon Reed

Julian Reyes and Simon Reed met through Simon’s 2037 interview for a production-equipment role at Resonance Films. Julian was the company’s co-founder and director; Simon was a prospective field-crew member with approximately fifteen years of Hollywood experience. Their initial contact centered on Julian’s authority over his camera and setups.

Origins and Professional Context

After ‘’I Am Still Me’’ brought Resonance Films more requests, Julian and Kayla Rossi considered adding a third core team member. Equipment preparation and management had become difficult for Julian to carry alongside filming and his health needs. An earlier field worker had treated big-budget experience as grounds to override Julian’s decisions, leaving Julian wary of giving another person access to his equipment.

Simon wanted to leave the demands of Hollywood for a smaller company. He had worked with cameras and lighting and especially enjoyed preparing them so a crew could film well. He interviewed with both founders for the equipment position.

Roles and Working Boundaries

Julian retained creative authority over his setups. During the interview, he asked how Simon would respond to a configuration he believed was wrong. Simon distinguished safety or unusable footage from personal preference: he would stop an immediate hazard, privately flag a technical risk, and ask before changing equipment. He would not silently replace Julian’s choices with his own. Simon also asked who could authorize a change if Julian was unavailable, making the decision boundary explicit rather than assuming it.

Simon admitted that earlier in his career he had changed another person’s camera settings without asking and later learned that the settings were intentional. He apologized, helped restore them, and changed his practice. Julian valued the account because Simon identified a real error and what he did afterward. Julian’s strong intuition made a claim of faultlessness less persuasive to him than a specific admission. At the interview’s end, Julian invited Simon to examine his camera and asked whether Simon could start the following week.
