The title referred to a palinode, a work that retracts or contradicts an earlier statement. Charlie used that form to reconsider the anger he had directed toward his body.

Musical Content

The composition used saxophone and piano without a rhythm section. Its ending did not provide a conventional musical resolution: Charlie’s breath was the final audible gesture rather than a played note.

The work addressed Charlie’s changing relationship with his chronically ill body. Its apology was directed toward the body he had experienced as betraying or limiting him rather than describing that body as objectively broken.
